PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

I take pride in all that I do and in the long-term relationships I’ve fostered in the process. I firmly believe that hard work eventually pays off, and I know that each day brings me closer to reaching my goals. Explore my personal philosophy, and feel free to get in touch with any questions.

DEFINITION OF SUCCESS

The Soul's Agenda

My definition of success is when I am setting a path that leads me closer to my soul's agenda. My soul's agenda is not definite and I can not fully complete it's agenda. However, trying to achieve the souls agenda in my decisions helps me sort out what serves me and what hinders me.

Luckily, success can be found in both what serves and what hinders our agenda. What serves our soul is success. The lessons we learn about what hinders our soul, sets us back on the journey to what serves us, and is also success. It is about learning, growing, challenging, inspiring, generating positive change, and living authentically. Success is persevering.

In the 5th grade I was in the science fair. Science wasn't my strongest skill set. So, I decided to set my own path and turn it into a project I could be proud of. I decided on "The Science of Being Happy." After I got past the mockery of this not being a "real" science project and my interviewee's superficial perceptions of happiness, I hit gold. The constant in my study was that to feel successful in life is to be happy. When asked how to measure happiness, it was best described through the words of Maya Angelou, "success is liking yourself, what you do, and how you do it."

To me, serving my souls agenda through liking myself, what I do, and how I do it, is success.

MY ALWAYS

"I can do hard things"

When faced with adversity or opportunity, I remind myself that I can do hard things. Before I begin to doubt my abilities I remind myself that I am capable. My authenticity and growth cornerstones are tools/values that I use to help me believe "my always."

Staying true to myself and a willingness to learn helps me stay true to my souls agenda and gives me the strength to keep persevering.

MY THEME

How my philosophy relates to:

PERSONAL LIFE

Self Worth

My philosophy helps me navigate relationships and situations  that either serve me or hinder me. If something is hindering me from feeling like I'm operating based off of my souls agenda, then it isn't for me! It has helped me learn to set healthy boundaries for my life. We call this self care and we love it!

WORK

Pressure

As an openly queer woman in a male dominated sports industry, there is pressure to pick the right career path, to act straight edge, to communicate but not be outspoken, to succeed but not draw attention to yourself. My philosophy is rooted in the idea that if I like myself, like what I do, and how I do it then I will succeed. My philosophy puts the trust and responsibility on myself to succeed, not on others who might not have my best interest at heart.

ACADEMICS

Choice

As a student athlete, my options for my degree were limited. Once my career ended, I felt lost on where my next passion was. My philosophy helped me break down what I actually wanted and helped me gain control over my academia. My souls agenda led me back to Long Beach State's Sports Management Master program.

INTERACTION

Finding Community

My philosophy encourages me to be my true authentic self and act in ways that serve my souls purpose. Before I knew what my personal philosophy was, I was searching for answers in all of the wrong places. My philosophy now serves as the vehicle to keep me happy, surround myself with people who support me and lift me up, and focused on beneficial experiences instead of distractions that hinder me from growth. Having a sense of community is huge to me. It makes me feel safe, accepted, and worthy - a feeling everyone should have the joy of experiencing.

SOCIETY

Inspire Change

This philosophy serves me because it has my best interest at heart. My hope is that when I live my life through my souls agenda as my authentic self, that it will mirror in the real world and provide perspective, hope, and a sense of acceptance for others. Growing up, I longed for a sense of safety and community. By creating the world that I wanted for myself, I'm hoping that someone feels like they don't have to live their life for anyone but themselves.

THE PRESENCE OF FAILURE

POTENTIAL FAILURE

As a recovering people pleaser, there will be times where I doubt my choices based off of people reactions and perceptions of me. There will be times that I will be aggravated by others. And times when I am disappointed in my own self and make choices that hinder my own growth.

SO IS LIFE!

I protect myself from the failures through my philosophy. My fears of other peoples perceptions of me do not serve me in my own journey to serving my souls agenda. As long as I am operating in ways that make me feel good about myself and how I am doing it then I can't go wrong. I accept there are going to be times where I don't make the best choices. However, when I choose to learn from my choices that hinder me -  Win or lose, serve or hinder, there will be personal success based on how we choose to move forward.

LEGACY

Impact

The legacy I want to leave is to inspire people to be more loving, kind, and authentic to themselves and others.

I will lead by example - to be accepting, unapologetically myself, inclusive, impactful, and put people first.

I will treat people with the respect with the hopes of changing the perceptions and disrespect towards women within sports and the sports industry.

I will be exactly who I am and inspire people to do the same.
